ABOUT CAPS

Education:

Cadillac Area Public Schools (CAPS) boasts a long standing tradition of successfully preparing students. 

Education is a continuous process in which students can learn through shared responsibility of students, staff, parents and community. It is essential that the school district provide a diversified curriculum through which each student will achieve his/her potential academically, emotionally, physically and socially. Each student will be a productive, self-reliant and responsible member of our changing global society.


Cadillac High School, Grades: 9th - 12th | Students: 850                                                                                                                                                                                Cadillac High School (CHS) and CJHS complex is situated on beautiful Lake Cadillac where seventh and eighth graders attend junior high in one area and ninth through twelfth graders are taught in a separate area of the complex. There are some shared classrooms and gymnasium time. CHS offers a variety of programs ranging from dual enrollment, advanced placement, and general studies to core curriculum for all levels of students. Students can participate in approximately 20 varsity sports, numerous clubs and organizations, and a variety of music programs.

 

Cadillac Junior High School Grades: 8th - 9th | Students: 450

Cadillac Junior High School (CJHS) offers the necessary transition from the middle school to the high school setting. Students have the opportunity to be involved in various academic and intramural activities throughout the year. 

 

Mackinaw Trail Middle School, Grades: 5th - 6th | Students: 460

Mackinaw Trail Middle School (MTMS) is comprised of fifth and sixth graders who are housed in their own building with their own unique programs as they prepare for their junior high school experience.

 

Elementary Schools 

Cadillac Area Public Schools' elementary consist of four schools and have  philosophy that begins with Developmentally Appropriate practices in Preschool (GSRP), Kindergarten, first through fourth grades. "Hands-on" learning is encouraged at all levels. The core curriculum teaching practices support the belief that teacher, child and parents must be actively involved in the learning process.

All CAPS elementary schools offer all day Kindergarten each building provides an after school child care program known as CAPS Clubhouse. In addition, School Readiness Program for 4-year-olds is also offered. "Hands-on Science" programs for students in grades 3-4 help to reinforce science concepts that are taught in the normal classroom setting. PE, Art and Music programs are available for all students.

Cadillac Innovation High School, Grades: 9th - 12th|Students: 100

Cadillac Innovation High School offers opportunities to meet Board of Education graduation requirements for students who have had difficulty in managing their educational program in a traditional setting. Students in the program are in smaller classes and receive individual attention and counseling in addition to the basic course requirements. 

Adult Education offers adult students (16 years and older) programs in English as a second language, Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED preparation, high school completion, work force training and retraining.
